BEYOND THE BEER

Ever wondered who’s behind your brews? Our staff, although small, is mighty. Here’s a glimpse into their lives beyond the beer they brew, pour, and enjoy.

Pride Month is so important because it marks the start of huge change within the LGBTQIA+ community, as well as the wider societal implications. Although attitudes and injustice still remain, we have come a long way since the riots of 1969 and by continuing in this long standing tradition we continue to raise awareness, improve the attitudes of society and encourage inclusiveness.

Fun Fact: Ivy teaches Beer Yoga

Hey there,
I’m Ivy, and I’ve been in Salida with my pooch Remy for 6 solid years now. I stumbled into my first job here as a photographer at Monarch end of season in 2014. I had just graduated from photography school in Missoula, MT and, decided to apply. Me being the overly excited person that I am, problems arose as I didn’t live in Salida at the time. I lived in Albuquerque and didn’t know how to ski… Yet, I got the job and commuted back and forth for the rest of the season. That got old, and I got broke, so I decided to move to Iowa… That got old too and I decided that Salida was my new home. I tied my mattress tight to the top of my Jeep and journeyed to the heart of the Rockies bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. As all locals know, it’s hard to live here with only one job so, I had many. I’d photograph families by day and serve tables by night. Yes, it’s true, one of my many gigs was teaching yoga. I highly prefer beer yoga, ask me about it sometime, it’s quite fun. You may have also seen me teaching kitten yoga for the Ark-Valley Humane Society, yoga in the park for Planned Parenthood, or pretending to be cool while I taught yoga to the Elevate-Her gals. I love creating art in all forms, hiking, and traveling. My favorite thing about traveling is the food! I love sightseeing and all, but I’ll travel across the country for some good food.

This month, you may catch me volunteering for our local Pride Weekend Celebration! I will be photographing the entire event and offering free headshots to local LGBTQIA+ community members and ally’s. All donations will be given to the PfCA! Hope to see you there supporting this movement that celebrates sexual diversity, protesting discrimination, violence, promotes dignity, equal rights, and self-affirmation and is a way of increasing society’s awareness of the issues the queer and trans community faces.

Happy Pride Month Y’all,

Ivy (she/her)
